Can you demonstrate a strong understanding of safeguarding, mental health and wellbeing issues affecting post-16 learners? Are you experienced in responding to such issues and guiding young people through challenging situations? Are you passionate about supporting young people to thrive in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment?

Blackpool Sixth is a first-class college specialising in 16-19 education and we have an exciting opportunity for a Safeguarding Officer to join our Student Services team. This is a permanent, full time post working college staff term time only plus 5 days and could be perfect for you if you are calm under pressure and able to build strong, trusting relationships with our students.

In this vital role, you will take the lead in promoting a culture of safeguarding, wellbeing and positive behaviour across our college community. Working closely with students, staff, and external agencies, you will act as a case owner for safeguarding concerns and provide a visible and reassuring presence, supporting our young people to stay safe, engaged, and ready to learn.

A day in your new role could see you: 

  • Acting as a case owner for safeguarding referrals, responding appropriately to all safeguarding concerns in line with college and local authority procedures,
  • Being a visible, approachable presence around college; supporting students with empathy and calmness,
  • Checking in with students who need extra support to stay safe, engaged and on track,
  • Spotting concerns early and working closely with the safeguarding team to put support in place,
  • Building strong relationships with students and staff to create a caring, respectful culture,
  • Responding to incidents calmly and professionally,
  • Keeping accurate records using college systems,
  • Going home knowing you’ve helped someone feel safer, more supported, and ready to succeed.
